West Virginia Council of Trout Unlimited
Council Chair 2011-2014
Received Silver Trout Award (highest state honor) for exceptional leadership in 2015.
Received National Distinguished Service Award in Madison, WI, in 2013.
Established the Mountain State Trout Festival.
Developed new organizational, fundraising, and membership objectives and implemented strategic planning to meet them.
Instrumental in policy action; lobbied all levels of public office.
Organized the first annual Middle Fork of Williams River Bucket Brigade where dozens of volunteers carry several tons of limestone sand into the USFS Cranberry Wilderness Area to an ephemeral drainage that carries it to the main stream,
which treats the water so that brook trout can repopulate and thrive in their historic native habitat.
Facilitated Trout In The Classroom sites around West Virginia to educate children about headwater streams
Performed community organizing; interacted with newspaper editorial boards,;and lobbied local, state, and federal elected officials in an effort to establish the east's first USFS national monument in the southern Monongahela National Forest.
Founded the Sal Font Chapter of Trout Unlimited in central West Virginia, an independent nonprofit affiliate of the national organization. Served as its first President for four years.
